Harper's Ferry, WV

For Memorial Day we decided to drive up to Harper's Ferry. It is only 40 minutes from here and I had never been. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. A high of seventy degrees on Memorial Day is heaven. I enjoyed seeing the historic buildings dreaming of someday owning an older home. Michael and the kids loved throwing rocks into the Shenandoah River. We had a picnic by the river and grabbed some ice cream before heading home (in time for Simon to take a nap on the way home). I love when we get to do fun things together when Michael has a day off. I hope we are creating fun memories with Miriam and Simon.

so many animals

We have been taking advantage of every nice day by venturing out to explore. On Friday we went to the farm to check out the spring baby animals. They had goats and pigs that were born within the week. Simon enjoyed yelling and pointing for me to look at all the animals. Simon also had no fear when it came to climbing the fence to get a closer look at the animals. I had to keep one hand on him at all times. Miriam, as usual, kept her distance but enjoyed the animals from her safe view. After the farm we got to meet up with Michael for lunch. He has been working really close to where the farm is for the past few weeks. I can't believe we didn't think of it sooner, but I wanted to take advantage and go to lunch together. The kids were excited to see Dad at Chick-fil-A.

On Tuesday I was feeling really adventurous and brave. I decided to drive downtown the take the kids to the zoo. I didn't want to leave too early so I wouldn't have any chance of hitting morning traffic. (In case you don't know I am not a fan of driving in DC). Anyway, we made it safe and sound and had a great time. It amazed me what a good memory Miriam has. She remembered going to the zoo at the end of last summer and kept reminding me which animals we had to see next. To top it all off, it was the most beautiful day to be outside. It was only in the sixty's so we kept our sweaters on most of the time, but never felt cold or hot. Miriam and Simon had such a fun time seeing the animals and being able to run around outside. Simon walked almost the entire time, which led to him falling asleep in about 2 minutes once we got in the car. I didn't bring my camera, so I only have iPhone pictures from the zoo.

I have to say, I am having such a fun Spring with these two kids. I have a great opportunity to do a lot of fun things this summer while they are both old enough to understand and enjoy our outings. We don't have a baby to stop and take care of this summer, so we are going to take advantage and try many more adventures very soon. I am so grateful I get the chance to be a stay at home Mom to Miriam and Simon. I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband that works so hard to provide for our family and give me this opportunity.

Mother's Day

I had a great Mother's Day with my family. I am so grateful for Miriam and Simon. I enjoy being their mom more than I could have ever known. I always wanted to be a mom. There was nothing else that even came close to my desire to be a mom. Even though it is the hardest job in the world, it is by far the most rewarding. I love my little family to pieces.

I am also grateful to my own Mom who is the best example of motherhood. I hope to someday be just like her.

Michael's Birthday

We had a great day celebrating Michael's birthday on Saturday. Since Michael had to work from home in the morning I took the kids out of the house and hit as many garage sales as we could handle. Hopefully this gave him some much needed quiet time to relax. Michael likes to cook and ended up making most of his dinner and dessert for the night. As usual he wanted Greek food for dinner. We kept it pretty simple with just the basics. We invited his Mom and sister, Rebecca, over for presents and dessert. For dessert he decided on key lime pie. Even though it was a typical type of day I hope Michael had a great birthday.

Charming Winchester Virginia

This week I took the kids to the quaint town of Winchester. I have been wanting to explore Winchester for quite some time but never could talk Michael into going. Thankfully, Michael's Mom and sister, Rebecca, wanted to check it out with me. I could have stayed all day looking at the cute old houses and shops. If only the kids could look at old houses and shops all day. Miriam and Simon were troopers as we made a day of antique shops, thrift stores, and walking down the street looking at old houses. At lunch we stopped at a bakery/country store for some BBQ. We realized we were there for the week of the Apple Blossom Festival and expected to see more people walking down the streets. Unfortunately the festival means the town shuts down and a lot of the shops were closed. I had a great time and look forward to going back and exploring more of what Winchester has to offer. Now I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
