September Extras

In September:

* We were adjusting to having Miriam gone at school all day
* When Miriam came home from school she wanted popcorn every day for a snack
* Levi learned to open the doors at church - little escapee
* I guess we had a pretty laid back month because it looks like I didn't take very many pictures, here are the extra ones I did take:

please tell me I am not the only one that can't go to the bathroom in peace

Leesburg Air Show

We went to the Leesburg Air Show a couple of years ago. We kind of forgot about it for the past couple of years. This year we thought the kids would enjoy the planes more. We came a bit more prepared with chairs this time. We decided to eat lunch at home and then get there just in time for the actual air show part.

After the air show we walked around the tarmac and let the kids check out the cars, planes, and helicopters. Levi was asleep, but Miriam and Simon were able to sit in a police van, airplane, and helicopter.

As we were leaving I asked the kids what their favorite part was. Miriam and Simon both said riding the bus (they shuttled people from the high school in charter buses) and the play area for kids. I guess that the airplanes didn't make as big as an impression as I thought.

Swimming and Parks

With summer coming to an end and school staring we wanted to soak up the last warm days outside together. We took the kids swimming the Saturday before Labor Day (after our trip to Gravelly Point). On Labor Day we took the kids to dinosaur park. A couple of weeks later we took the kids to a new park we found in Herndon. Any time spent together as a family is the best!

Here is a short video of the park days:

Gravelly Point

We wanted to take the kids somewhere fun for Labor Day weekend. Michael had heard about a park called Gravelly Point. It is right next to Reagan National Airport, so you can watch the airplanes take-off really close. Although it was really loud, I think the kids liked it. In between planes Miriam and Simon threw rocks into the river. After we had our fill of planes we went to find a spot for our picnic. It was a lot of fun to get out and do something different.

On our trip to South Carolina we discovered Kilwins, a delicious "ice cream store" (as our kids refer to it). We found out they were opening a store in Alexandria and decided to go to the grand opening. Sadly we didn't win anything, but we enjoyed our delicious ice cream. Levi was terrified of the moose!

First Day of School

Miriam is so excited to start first grade. She thinks it will be great to eat lunch at school. It will be an adjustment having her gone all day. Miriam is growing up so fast. She is such an amazing girl. Here are pictures of the first day of school.

Miriam has a group of friends that she walks to the bus with everyday.
